THOMAS CRAWFORD (b. c. 1700)

JANE JOHNSTON (b. say 1715), possibly the daughter of Michael Johnston and Mary Hancock


Thomas Crawford was born "near the beginning of the eighteenth century." [1] He married Jane Johnson, the daughter Michael and Mary (Hancock) Johnston on 9 March 1737/8. [1][2][3]

Jane Johnston was born say 1715.

Thomas Crawford lived in Haverhill, Massachusetts. In 1741 the land that was his homestead was severed from Haverhill and annexed to New Hampshire. This caused him to reside instead in Hampstead, New Hampshire. [3] He moved from Hampstead to New Chester (now Hill) in 1767 and took up land in the part that later became Bridgewater. [1]

Thomas served in three expeditions in the French and Indian War for the reduction of Crown Point. In 1756 he was in Captain Parry's Company, Colonel Meserve's Regiment; in 1757 he was in Captain Mooney's Company, Colonel Meserve's Regiment; in 1758 he was in Captain John Hazen's company, Colonel Tash's regiment. Thomas owned extensive tracts of land. [3]

Children of Thomas Crawford and Jane Johnston:

i. Mary Crawford was baptized on 16 August 1741 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. [4]

ii. Abigail Crawford was baptized on 9 June 1743 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. [4] She died in 1830. [3][5] She married Peter Heath on 11 February 1768. [3] Peter was born in 1742. [5] He died in 1817. [3][5] Peter and Abigail are buried in the Moulton cemetery, Estrie region, Quebec. [5]

Peter and Abigail lived in Bridgewater until 1804 and then moved to Stanstead, P.Q. [3]

iii. Captain Jonathan Crawford was born about 1746. He died on 8 December 1827 in Bridgewater. He married Mary Heath.

iv. Thomas Crawford was born about 1748. [1] He died in 1827. [3] He widow Nancy died on 14 July 1816. [3]

Thomas was a delegate in 1788 to the convention to ratify the constitution. [3]

v. Sarah Crawford was baptized in 1755 in Hampstead. [3]

vi. Robert Crawford was baptized in 1755 in Hampstead. [3] He died on 18 April 1813 of scarlet fever during an epidemic at Concord, New Hampshire. [1]

Robert was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He served from 16 June to 16 December 1775 in Colonel Timothy Bedel's regiment of Rangers. In 1776 we served in Captain Joshua Abbot's company in Colonel John Stark's Fifth Regiment of Foot. He enlisted in Capt. Amos Morril's company in Colonel David Hobart's regiment on 30 January 1777 and served until 6 March 1779. [1]

Robert re-enlisted as a soldier in the War of 1812. [1]

vii. John Crawford was baptized in 1758 in Hampstead. [3]
